Amanda’s New England inspired home

New England is known for its wonderful autumn. So as we go into September, take a look at Amanda’s homely spaces – inspired by New England’s famous neutral-and-blue interior style.

Amanda moved into her detached four-bedroom house in Milton Keynes in May. It’s a stark contrast to her previous abode… on the other side of the world in Australia. The first step was to give the home a modern feel.

Although it’s a fairly new house, built in 2000, the previous owners favoured older features. We were used to a modern home Down Under, so wanted to give our new home in England the same treatment.

“In the hallway, the previous owners had a curtain swamping the small window – it felt like one of those curtains they hang over artwork before it’s revealed! So naturally, it had to go.

“I searched online for something with a Hampton’s, New England style and came across the Lanza Indigo Roman blind from Web-Blinds, which was exactly what I was looking for (the right colours, print and price).”

Amanda was really chuffed with the way the little blind added interest to her hallway. It nicely complements the metal wool bale stencil from the property Amanda’s family used to own in Australia. But she wasn’t done with Web-Blinds…

“We also wanted something to complement the other rooms of our home,” says Amanda.  “We chose white Fauxwood blinds for a few reasons. Being Fauxwood, we could have the same blinds in every other room of the house, including the kitchen and utility, without worrying about steam or water.

“We wanted the house to feel bright and bigger, while still maintaining our privacy. We just couldn’t do that with curtains And the final thing was price – the price from Web-Blinds was the best I could find after searching both the high street and other websites.”

And you can’t say fairer than that. We hope Blighty treats you well Amanda!
