Make sure your blinds are child safe

Blinds and child safety have been in the headlines recently after regulations in the new European standard came into play.

These legal guidelines mean child-safety devices must now be fitted with blinds featuring cord or chain controls to help keep these out of reach of any youngsters.

We’ve been sending child-safety devices with our cord and chain-operated blinds whenever customers have requested them for a long time, but now they will come as standard. Our range also includes a beautiful selection of control cord and chain-free designs, such as our styles that click into Perfect Fit frames and luxury Roller and Tab Pleated blinds, plus curtains and shutters.

How do these changes affect you?

Regardless of whether you have a family or not, if your window dressing comes with a child-safety device then the law says it must be fitted.

Our standard Roman, Pleated, and Venetian and Wooden Venetian blinds all come with a cleat that needs to be fixed on the wall or window frame at a height of 1.5 metres from the floor. The control cords should be wrapped around this child-safety device, keeping them away from the hands of inquisitive children.

If you’ve ordered our Roller, Vertical or deluxe Roman blinds, then you’ll receive a hook. The controls loop around this child-safety device, keeping them completely taut; to do this, the hook must be fitted to a wall or window frame at the point when the chain is fully extended.

Some of our blinds also feature special control connectors, clips and tassels that break apart when placed under force – but don’t worry, fixing them is straightforward. You can find out more about the new European standard for child safety here.
